Description

Your students will take the role of analysts for this Forensics Glass Lab to solve the case of the stolen Pokemon card valued at $35,000! Glass evidence is collected from the crime scene and found associated with three suspects. Who took the priceless card?

Before starting the glass lab, students work through twenty three interactive Google Slides to learn about nine different ways to analyze glass. Slides are student-led and teach them all they need to know about how to complete the lab. No direct instruction is needed, unless you choose to!

The slides accompany a four page Pre-Lab Notes sheet, giving students a place to write down what they learn as they go. KEY included!

Students then take a 13 question Google Form to be sure they understand the Lab.

Now they are ready to go! Student Instructions walk them through the nine tests while they take data on the four page Lab Data Sheet.

Resource includes a DETAILED sixteen page Teaching Guide for how to source materials for the lab as well as tips and options for running the lab in class if you have limited time and/or resources.

Students Will Learn and Do Nine Glass Lab Tests:

  • Microscopic analysis
  • Glass Thickness
  • Glass Density
  • Refractive Index: Immersion Technique
  • Refractive Index: Becke Lines
